7th and 8th Grade: Week of October 27-31

Hello,
This week we will be continuing our Food Chemistry and Respiration unit. Specifically we will be learning more about glucose and begin testing liquids and foods for fat content. The homework and due date is as follows:

Tuesday, October, 28: Answer the following in complete sentences:
  1. What is diabetes? How does it relate to glucose?
  2. What percentage of Americans suffer from diabetes? Is it increasing or decreasing?
Thursday, October 30: Answer the following in complete sentences:
  1. Go to your kitchen cabinet and make a list of all the kinds of cooking oils in your house. Make a list of the oils along with the grams of total fat, saturated fat, and trans fat (found under the heading Total Fat)in a table form. The information can be found in the Nutrition Facts on the back of the bottle. Do some research on saturated fats and trans fats and be prepared to contribute your research to our discussion on Thursday. Does it appear that some oils are healthier than others?

As a reminder:
Thursday is a half-day with students dismissed after 4th period (11:34 am). Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for 2 pm- 6 pm.
Friday is scheduled for parent-teacher conferences from 9 am- 12 pm.
